The Internet has evolved so quickly since its inception in 1957. Learning how academia, industry and government all came together to develop the technology initally for national security, was indeed quite
interesting. With the advancement of data networking and packet switching, a new network was created called ARPANET. Government contracts were made to companies to help create programming, design and hardware for IPM's. With growing technology and development of TCP's, IP's, DARPA was able to mandate the use of this suite of communications now referred as TCP/IP to communicate.
Interesting facts that I learned, in 1971 the first email was sent, and the first international connections to the internet were England and Norway in 1973.
Amazingly, no single organization owns or controls the internet. Many organizations and groups however, work to oversee and standardize the development of the internet.
